Thanong Leelawatanasuk
Thanong is the Deputy Director of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand, which is responsible for improving and uplifting the institute’s gem and precious metals testing laboratory, research and development, and standard consultation services. He is a geologist-gemologist who works intensively in the gem testing laboratory. His expertise is advanced spectroscopy, mineralogy, and geochemistry applied to the identification of gemstones.
He started his gemologist career in 1998, mainly focused on developing the applications of advanced spectroscopy in gemstone testing. With over 20 years as chief of the gem testing laboratory, he has gained a lot of knowledge and experience in gemology and is a highly reputable gemologist in Thailand. Through many years of serving as Chief of the laboratory, he also has had opportunities to conduct many research projects devoted to color stone and diamond characterization, gemstone treatment detection, and gemstone origin determination. Thanong has also been a GIT representative in many international organizations such as LMHC, CIBJO, and RJC.
