In a presentation rich in historical and gemological details, Ioannis Alexandris, CEO of Gemolithos Group, speaking at the ICA Congress, highlighted the central role of Brazil in the history and future of gems and jewelry during the panel “The Past, Present and Future of Gems and Jewelry from Brazil”.

He recalled how Brazilian diamonds once adorned the crowns of European royalty and highlighted the country’s mineral abundance and diversity, classifying it as a “gem paradise”.
Focusing on iconic stones such as chrysoberyl, amethyst, imperial topaz, Paraíba tourmaline and alexandrite, Alexandris showed the evolution of the quality, design and added value of Brazilian gemstones over time.

For Alexandris, knowing the “roots” of this tradition is essential to understanding the value of Brazilian gemstones today.
He also praised sustainable mining practices and the rise of national designers who combine innovation, responsibility and creative excellence.

Closing his speech, he reinforced that Brazil not only was, but continues to be a protagonist in the global gemstone market, with a promising future based on innovation, responsibility and cultural heritage.
