Vincent Pardieu

Field Gemologist

Vincent Pardieu is a world-renowned field gemologist, writer, and documentary producer with over 25 years of experience traveling to gemstone mining areas across the globe. Having conducted 154 field expeditions across Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Americas, he has gained an unparalleled understanding of the complex realities of colored gemstone production. Richard W. Hughes, author of Ruby & Sapphire, once remarked that “nobody dead or alive has probably visited as many gem mines as Vincent.” In the lab, he has specialized in origin determination for rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and spinels, with a strong focus on building a comprehensive reference collection of gem samples gathered as close to the source as possible.

Pardieu’s extensive career includes roles as Director of AIGS Lab in Bangkok, gemologist at Gübelin Gem Lab in Switzerland, and head of GIA’s first Field Gemology department in Bangkok. Since founding VP Consulting WLL in 2017, he has collaborated with institutions such as the Bahrain Institute for Pearls & Gemstones (DANAT), Greenland Ruby, and the ICA Gem Lab. He is an active member of the Association Française de Gemmologie and the AGTA committee for industry standards on sustainability and ethics. A prolific author and speaker, his work is widely published, with research available on ResearchGate, and he has produced over 30 field gemology documentaries on his YouTube channel. With nearly 200,000 Instagram followers, Pardieu continues to share his passion for gemology, travel, and conservation with a global audience.
