Director General of The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand
Sumed Prasongpongchai is the Director General of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT) and the President of the Asia-Pacific Gemstone and Technology Standardization Alliance (AGA). He also serves on the CIBJO Board of Directors and the RJC Task Force, representing the Thai gem and jewelry industry in global discussions on sustainability, responsible sourcing, and ethical practices. Additionally, he is a co-organizer of the Bangkok Gem and Jewelry Fair, one of Asia’s premier industry events.
As a member of the GIT Executive Board Committee, he collaborates with government bodies and industry leaders to align national strategies with international standards. With a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and extensive experience in international marketing, manufacturing, and business strategy, he plays a key role in strengthening Thailand’s global competitiveness.
Under his leadership, GIT focuses on policy development, research and innovation, workforce training, and sustainability initiatives to support the industry’s growth. He works closely with renowned designers, luxury brands, trade associations, and academic institutions to drive ethical and responsible practices, ensuring Thailand remains a leader in the global gem and jewelry market.
