Shimul Mehta Vyas is a design professional engaged in education, research and practice for over two decades.
She is a senior faculty at India’s premier design institute, the National Institute of Design (NID) for the past 22 years.
She specialized in Accessory Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York and went on to establish the Lifestyle Accessory Design department at NID which offers Jewellery Design as one of the career paths to its Master’s level students.
Shimul has spearheaded some path-breaking research and design development projects in the realm of Jewellery; Consumer Lifestyle Trends; and Craft Design. Under the aegis of the Jaipur Jewellery Show, she has authored a Coffee Table cum Reference Book – “When Jewellery Speaks” on the traditional Indian jewellery crafting technique of Kundan-Minakaari.
She also has to her credit, India’s first Jewellery Trend Book published by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council in association with NID wherein Shimul led the project as its Research & Creative head.
She has been invited as jury member on several national and international design competitions.
